The megalopolis Budapest was born in 1872 after the fusion of the three large historical areas, Buda, Pest and Óbuda. A few sightseeing options


The Buda Castle
Situated on the top of the mountain Várhegy. It can be seen from almost every part of the downtown. This part of the World Heritage is a neglectable program to visit and wonder it.

The Bastion
The Fisherman's Bastion with its white sugar-loaf spires is a colourful spot of the city.

The Citadel and the Monument of Freedom
The Citadel was built as a fortress but was used as a storehouse where no soldiers served. The Monument symbolizes the liberty of the Hungarian people. This site is one of the best sight-seeing points of the city. Getting of from the corpus of the University you can clearly see the monument, especially in evening and at night.

Cavetour in the city
It is unparalelled to take a tour in a cave in the centre of a city but in Budapest it is possible, too! For evidence in the Pálvölgyi Cave which is the third biggest cave in Hungary with dripstones in it.

The Bridges
The first permanent bridge between Pest and Buda was the Chain Bridge. The lions guarding the entrance of the Chain Bridge have became the symbol of Budapest. At night lantern strings dress all of the nine bridges.

Margit Island (Margaret Island)
The most beautiful park in Budapest is an isle! The Margit Island was a royal hunting ground then it became a picnic area in the1900s.

The Heros' Square
This is one of the most attractive sculptural group int he country and in Europe.

Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden
It is one of the most oldest Zoo in Europe. Some of the buildings are famous as examples of the great Hungarian secessionistic architecture.

Vajdahunyad Castle
Originally this complex was built only for the Millennium and the maquettes of historical buildings were made from wood to represent the various Hungarian architecture styles. But it achieved such a success that the city decided to build it up, so it was the maquette which came to life.

Take the tram No.2. to travel on 'the highway of world heritages'
The streetcar takes you near the Chain Bridge, the Gresham Palace, the House of Parliament, the Academy of Hungarian Sciences. The whole Danube band in Budapest is an eclectic jewel case of Europe.
